2nd Shift Loom Technician

Pay Range: $16-18 per hour

Full Job Description:

The loom fixer will report to the department supervisor in a manufacturing setting and will be responsible for recognizing, troubleshooting and repairing of machinery. The loom fixer is an integral part of our manufacturing team and will be responsible for multiple machines and applications on a daily basis. The employee is expected to follow established protocols and procedures and comply with the set policies of Interstate Narrow Fabrics.

Essential Functions:

  • Examine looms to determine causes of loom stoppage, such as warp filling, harness breaks, or mechanical defects.

  • Remove defects in cloth by cutting and pulling out filling.

  • Inspect products to ensure that specifications are met and to determine if machines need adjustment.

  • Thread yarn, thread, and fabric through guides, needles, and rollers of machines for weaving or other processing.

  • Set up, or set up and operate textile machines that perform textile processing and manufacturing operations such as winding, twisting, weaving, bonding, or stretching. Additionally, checking beam tensions, harnesses, and heads.

  • Assist or perform style-changes according to customer specifications for both R&D (sample production) and order fulfillment.

  • Start machines, monitor operations, and make adjustments as needed.

  • Inspect machinery to determine whether repairs are needed.

  • Recognize, troubleshoot and repair any machinery issues including: broken needles, guides, stitch combs, etc.

  • Record information about work completed and machine settings.

  • Confer with co-workers to obtain information about orders, processes, or problems.

  • Stop machines when specified amounts of product have been produced.

  • Clean, oil, and lubricate machines, using air hoses, cleaning solutions, rags, oil cans, or grease guns.

  • Operate machines for test runs to verify adjustments and to obtain product samples.

  • Program electronic equipment if necessary.

  • May be asked to study guides, loom patterns, samples, charts, or specification sheets, or confer with supervisors or designers to determine setup requirements.

  • Install, level, and align machine components such as gears, chains, guides, dies, cutters, or needles to set up machinery for operation.

  • Adjust machine mechanisms, tensions, and speeds to produce specified products.

  • Notify supervisors of mechanical malfunctions.

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work environment.

  • Maintain and organize parts, tools, and equipment.

  • Assist in other areas within the Weaving operation.

  • Other Duties and Responsibilities as assigned.

  • Must be able to hand off the status of jobs to overlapping shifts.

  • Ability to read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, work instructions, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

  • Possess basic mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

  • Basic understanding of goods manufacturing practices and working within regulated industries.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to get along well with others and work in a team environment.

  • Excellent dependability and reliability.

Physical Demands:

This position very frequently is required to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time. Must have the ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs. Must be able to reach with arms (above the head), use hands and have finger dexterity to knot, thread and handle fine yarns and tools. Right hand dominance is an asset. Required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, walk, talk or hear. This position requires good clear vision and including color, peripheral, distance, and depth perception, the ability to adjust focus. Routine exposure to a noisy environment. Climbs stairs and / or ladders. This position very frequently lifts up to 10 lbs., 25 lbs., or 50 lbs.

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Prior manufacturing experience is preferred.

  • Pass criminal background check and drug screen.

Note: Pay rate is according to experience. In most cases our company is willing to train the right candidate and pay rate will depend on different factors.
All available positions, unless otherwise noted, train on 1st shift (7am - 3pm).
